Manila, Philippines, 19 August 2015 – Leading beverage brand MILO will once again welcome young athletes to the 2015 MILO Little Olympics, the most recognized and longest-running inter-school youth sports competition in the country. This season, the first of four legs will commence in Cagayan De Oro on August 21-23. The City of Golden Friendship is ready to warmly receive athletes and spectators alike.

Now on its 28th year, the MILO Little Olympics is bringing new and exciting things to the young athletes. There will now be four legs in the competition, to be hosted by key cities in North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Two regional legs are moved to two new hosting cities – Visayas will now be hosted by Iloilo, and NCR will be hosted by Santa Rosa, Laguna. These two new venues will be home to the participating student-athletes in their respective regions.

Budding athletes will also have two new sports to look forward to, as demo sports Arnis and Karatedo are added into the roster of sports offered by the competition, joining Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Football, Gymnastics, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Sepak Takraw and Scrabble. A total of 15 sporting events will now be offered by the MILO Little Olympics.

“With a new regional leg to be hosted by a new city, two new venues, and two new sports, we are expecting even more spectators and sports enthusiasts to gather and experience the thrilling youth sports games in the different regional events,” said Robbie De Vera, MILO Sports Executive. “We invite everyone to support and cheer on our young champions as they take on the challenge of another thrilling season of the MILO Little Olympics.“

The yearly youth sports competition emphasizes MILO’s unwavering commitment in helping the country find the next generation of sports heroes by seeking to develop not only athleticism but also mental discipline in student-athletes. Through the MILO Little Olympics, MILO provides these young champions a chance to showcase their athletic abilities, determination and drive in the national arena as the first step towards achieving greatness in international leagues, including the SEA Games, the World Youth Cup, and the Asian Junior Track Meet.

Under its One Child, One Sport (OCOS) program in partnership with the Department of Education, MILO reinforces its commitment to grassroots sports development for youth through the MILO Little Olympics. Together with DepEd, MILO promotes an active and healthy lifestyle among aspiring young Filipino athletes.

The 2015 MILO Little Olympics eliminations leg will shift to South Luzon on August 28-30 in Santa Rosa, Laguna, before heading to North Luzon on September 4-6 in Baguio, and Visayas on September 11-13 in Iloilo. All winners from the elimination legs will represent their region in the 2015 MILO Little Olympics National Finals in Santa Rosa, Laguna on October 23-25, 2015.
