Smart Communications has launched the mobile version of the Secured Health Information Network and Exchange (SHINE) OS+ to help improve the delivery of healthcare services in the country on April 8 2016 at New World Manila Bay Hotel (formerly Hyalt) in Malate Manila.

SHINE OS+ is an electronic medical record (EMR) platform leveraging on open-sourced technologies developed in partnership with Ateneo Java Wireless Competency Center (AJWCC). It allows local government units and other public and private health service providers, free access and use of its SaaS (online) version and community edition (offline). Both offline and online version are stored in a cloud. For the offline version, the user would have to manually trigger a functionality to upload data and sync it to the cloud storage.

A mobile version was developed to address mobility and provide added convenience for health and social workers who are on the field. The mobile edition of Shine OS+ is available for Android devices on the Google Play Store and will soon be available at the App Store for iOS devices. The mobile app can synchronize its data on the cloud when data connection is available or it may also store temporarily the information on the device based on the device’s storage capability in the absence of data connectivity.

“SHINE OS+ is an open-sourced platform with readily available developer toolkits that allow developers from anywhere in the globe to create modules and plugins that can be customized to fill current gaps in the health sector or open new avenues for innovative solutions to arise. Used mainly by local government-operated healthcare facilities as an EMR (electronic medical record), SHINE OS+ has opened its API to provide access to other systems to enable data sharing or data exchange for interoperability that can greatly impact the function of the local government and national health agencies in improving its healthcare services, adhering to its goal on Universal Healthcare program.

Smart, in partnership with the Department of Health and the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, will hold it very first health hackathon labeled #ThinkOpenHealth, catalyzing a significant direction for the local and national health sector of the country to “open” systems in solving its problems.
