The Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) dengue prevention kits, called Ovicidal Larvicidal Traps or simply OL Traps, were handed out for free to visitors of the 12th National Biotechnology Week recently at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management in Quezon City. An OL Trap is composed of a black canister, a lawanit paddle, and pellets. Putting OL Traps under the furniture, beside discarded tires and other dark, shady areas helps decrease the Aedes aegypti mosquito population as mosquito eggs and larvae die in contact with the trap’s organic active solution. This limits dengue cases especially among school children. For inquiries, email gigelera@pchrd.dost.gov.ph(Text and photos by Espie Angelica A. de Leon, S&T Media Service, DOST-STII)
