BARANGAY CHAIRMAN ARRESTED FOR SELLING SHABU IN BARANGAY HALL

An elected barangay official was arrested by combined operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) after he sold methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, to a poseur-buyer inside a barangay hall in Bulacan. PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr. identified the suspect as Roberto Manlapid y Quintos, 45 years old, barangay chairman of Barangay San Martin II, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. On October 22, 2014, elements of PDEA Regional Office 3 (PDEA RO3) under Director Jeoffrey Tacio, together with teams from Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group 3, Regional Intelligence Division-Intelligence Operations Service and San Jose del Monte Police conducted the buy-bust operation in the barangay hall of Barangay San Martin II, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, at around 5:30 in the afternoon. Manlapid’s cohort, identified only as a certain Abu, was able to elude arrest.             Confiscated during the operation were three heat-sealed plastic sachets of shabu, weighing roughly 15 grams and the buy-bust money worth P500. High standards, good practices in livestock industry enables PHL to export meat, poultry-DA

The Department of Agriculture said today that because of the effort exerted by the Department and its National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) in implementing the standards for animal slaughter, mandatory good manufacturing practices, hazard analysis critical control point and humane handling of animals for slaughter, the country is able to export livestock products to several countries. Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said, besides exporting chicken yakitori and peking duck to Japan, the Philippines also exports halal beef to Brunei, fresh and frozen halal chicken to the United Arab Emirates,crocodile meat to Slovak Republic and frozen chicken to South Korea. "Let us protect our gains.  We should also maximize our being foot and mouth disease free (FMD) without vaccination and avian flu free status," Alcala said. The Secretary said that we should also expand our export market and continue implementing strict standards for our meat that comply with the export destination requirements and global standards. He added, the DA will continue to strictly monitor local markets to ensure that the meat our countrymen will have on their table is safe. P6 MILLION WORTH OF SHABU INTERCEPTED IN CHECKPOINT Couple, young courier arrested

Methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, with an estimated value of P6 million, was intercepted during a checkpoint operation conducted by anti-narcotics agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), in collaboration with local police on October 20, 2014 in Cotabato City. PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr. said that the illegal drug, weighing approximately one kilogram and placed inside a large transparent plastic sachet, was confiscated from suspects identified as couple Tato K. Felmin, 35 years old; his wife, Alma, 27; and Fahad B. Guiapar, 19, a male from Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao. At around 8:00 in the evening, combined elements of PDEA Regional Office-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA RO-ARMM) under Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz, and teams from Cotabato City Police Station 3 intercepted the suspects on board a blue-colored Elf truck with plate number UEX-220 carrying the illegal drug in a checkpoint at Purok Silangan, Sinsuat Avenue, Tamontaka, Cotabato City. The operation was a result of the information received from a confidential informant reporting that illegal drugs will be transported from Northern Kabuntalan, Maguindanao to Cotabato City on board a truck. DA recognizes important role of NMIS in safety, trade of livestock products

The Department of Agriculture recognized the important role the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) plays in ensuring the (health and) safety and quality of meat products and also in safeguarding the trade of livestock products as the nation celebrates Meat Safety Consciousness Week. Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said the NMIS will continue in tirelessly performing its regulatory function and will not stop in treading the straight path mandated by President Aquino. "Kung walang batas o malabo ang batas, mahirap magpatupad.  At kung may batas na hindi po matuwid ang pagpapatupad, hindi din po igagalang ng mga dapat sumunod sa batas," Alcala said. He added, the implementing rules and regulations of the Food Safety Law is scheduled to be signed next week. According to the Secretary, he has signed several guidelines, like the one on good hygienic slaughtering practices, and the creation of municipal and city meat inspection services to be institutionalized by LGUs to eradicate meat safety problems. The guidelines on meat market surveillance system is equally important since this ensures that meat in markets are compliant with safety standards, he added. The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) has partnered with the Nestle Philippines Incorporated to boost the campaign for the agency’s Agri-Pinoy Gulayan sa Paaralan Project that aims to promote vegetable production and consumption among schoolchildren. On October 20, 2014 BPI Director and DA Assistant Secretary Paz Benavidez signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nestle Senior Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs Edita de Leon at the BPI Office, Quezon City for the production and packaging of a harmonized manual on school gardening to be used by DA trainers and school teachers for the school veggie gardening project. Benavidez said that the partnership confirms that the government and the private sector can collaborate to attain unified objective—in this case, to reduce the number of malnourished children and attain food security in the country. To come up with the “Masustansiyang Pagtatanim” book, the DA-BPI has formed a technical working group assigned to formulate a single manual which will be used by different regions in training teachers on vegetable gardening. Ayon kay Marohomsalic, may kabuuang P2.5- Bilyong pisong halaga ang inilaang tulong ng pamahalaan ng Italya, sa ilalim ng IARCDSP ng Department of Agrarian Reform o DAR ang tinanggap ng may 53,000 na pamilyang magsasaka sa mga mahihirap na komunidad sa Mindanao.
