The Department of Science and Technology through the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) celebrated the National Technology Transfer Day on April 4, 2019 at the Reception Hall, Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.

The DOST is mandated to promote the central direction, leadership and coordination of scientific and technological efforts in the country. In order to ensure that world class scientific, technological and innovative solutions are delivered, the Republic Act 10055 or the “ Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009” was enacted and mandated the DOST to adopt appropriate policies innovations available to the public.

Pursuant to this mandate, the TAPI serves as the lead agency of the DOST in technology promotion and commercialization strategies. TAPI spearheads the conduct of activities that gathers key stakeholders in various sectors to ensure the transfer of technologies and innovations, which are designed to empower the local industries and advance the global competitiveness of the Philippine products and services.

Hence, the TAPI is conducting the technology Transfer since 2016. For almost two years, the licensors and end-users funded, various DOST- technologies to negotiate their adoption and commercialization. It is a strategy wherein the licensors such as the technology generators, innovators, and researchers can systematically transfer government-funded technologies to its deserved end-users like the entrepreneurs, investors, government agencies, local government units, and non-government organizations.

Among the 2019 Technology Transfer Day highlights was the Ceremonial Signing of the Amendments to the Implementation Rules and Regulation of the Republic Act No. 1005.

Engr. Edgar I. Garcia is the dedicated TAPI Director and the woman behind the R&D National Conference is Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, Undersecretary for Research and Development, DOST and Prof. Fortunato T. de la Peña, DOST Secretary is the Father of DOST Technology Transfer.

The event spearheaded by the DOST-TAPI aims to highlight and market the locally produced technologies and promote their readiness for commercialization.
