The Association of Schools of the Augustinian Sisters (ASAS), representing La Consolacion Schools nationwide, has condemned alleged corruption in government flood control projects, calling it a “betrayal of public trust” that worsens the plight of flood-stricken Filipinos.
In a statement, ASAS said that public funds meant to protect lives and property are being diverted through corrupt practices, leaving vulnerable communities at greater risk amid worsening climate change.
The group demanded accountability for officials implicated, transparency in the allocation and implementation of flood control budgets, and restitution of misused resources to fund urgent mitigation measures. “As institutions rooted in truth, unity, and charity, we cannot remain silent while lives, homes, and livelihoods continue to be lost,” the statement read.
ASAS reaffirmed its mission to educate future leaders in integrity and responsibility while urging government leaders to embrace transparency, justice, and selfless service. (Yen Ocampo)
