The Department of Agrarian Refrom (DAR) has recently turned over P6.7-million worth of rural infrastructure projects to the local government of Cabugao town in Ilocos Sur.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Christianne Suguitan said the projects, funded under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB), include the construction of the 1.3-kilometer Cabugao farm-to-market road and the rehabilitation of a 62-meter Cabugao footbridge. The DAR also provided four water pumps to four barangays in Cabugao.

Suguitan said that the farm-to-market road worth P6.2 million covers four barangays in Cabugao town namely, Catucdaan, Sisim, Alinaay and Caellayan, and the footbridge worth P200,000.00 covers one barangay—Carusipan, also in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur.

“Some 7,000 farmers and residents are now enjoying the concreted road and footbridge. The farmers now transport their produce and agri products faster to the market center,” said Suguitan.

Four water pumps worth P400,000.00 were also turned over to the local government of Cabugao. According to Suguitan, the water pumps would serve 536 farmer beneficiaries in four barangays namely Reppaac, Caellayan, Bato and Nagsantaan.

“All these projects are in line with the DAR’s aim of boosting the economic activities in farming communities,” Suguitan said. (pinkyroque)
