Introduction to Genomics for Computer Scientists, and Genome Assembly, Annotation, & Variant Calling Training and Workshop
Greetings from the Philippine Genome Center!
The Core Facility for Bioinformatics, Philippine Genome Center (PGC-CFB) of the UP System, in partnership with the Institute of Computer Science, University of the Philippines Los Baños, will be conducting the following back-to-back lectures, and workshops:
(1) INTRODUCTION TO GENOMICS FOR COMPUTER SCIENTISTS
This half-day lecture series will cover the computational side of genomics and basic but essential biological concepts and principles for genomic studies. This is open to students and researchers (computer scientists, statisticians, physicist etc.) who are exploring the use of genomics in their studies, or who wish to expand their knowledge-base on genomics.
June 21, 2016 (Tuesday)
1 PM to 5 PM
Lecture Hall 4, Institute of Computer Science, Physical Science Building (PhySci), Harold Cruzner Royal Palm Avenue, University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna
Registration (required): http://goo.gl/cvZz13
Registration fee: FREE

(2) GENOME ASSEMBLY, ANNOTATION, AND VARIANT CALLING TRAINING AND WORKSHOP
This hands-on workshop and training aims to provide a step-by-step, detailed, and easy to follow hands-on workshop on basic NGS data processing. The workshop will cover basic concepts, applications, and workflows that address typical genomics-based problems. This training and workshop event is open to students and researchers (biologists, computer scientists, statisticians, etc.) who are exploring the use of genomics in their studies, or who wish to expand their knowledge-base with the recent advances and techniques in genomics and bioinformatics.
Basic understanding of the principles of NGS sequencing and analysis and/or prior attendance to one of our One-day Lecture Series: Introduction to Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis is highly recommended for this workshop.
