The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XI, through its Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao Occidental, recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education (DepEd) – Davao Occidental Division to push for the implementation of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program.

DepEd Davao Occidental sought the assistance of DOST-XI to avail of the services of the food processing center that includes the use of food product development equipment and chemical, physio-chemical, microbial and sensorial laboratory analysis. Under this initiative, the DOST-XI will be able to provide senior high school students and the faculty with the needed technical assistance for product development in the Province of Davao Occidental.

The funding used to procure the equipment for the establishment of the facility is part of DOST-XI’s roll-out of different CEST projects in Barangays Demoloc, Pinalpalan, Little Baguio, Manuel Peralta, Mana, Lais, and Fishing Village in the said province. Furthermore, the project ensured access to quality information that can be used to empower education and teaching techniques and provide more opportunities to the marginalized sectors.
