KWF is tasked by law to undertake, coordinate and promote researches for the development, propagation, and preservation of Filipino as the national language of the Philippines, and other Philippine languages.
Atty. Taran, who is also a lawyer and possesses masters of law and of government management, is expected to spearhead the implementation of plans and programs of KWF, headed by and full time commissioners Benjamin M. Mendillo, Jr. and Carmelita Abdurahman.
