The Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) donated solar power in the Barangay Hall of Barangay Paradise Embac, Paquibato last April 27.
In partnership with DOST XI, Shock and Awe Industrial Corporation supplied eight solar panels that produce 3.5 kilowatt-hour (kWh). It is expected to supply power for the efficient operations of the Barangay Hall.
In an interview, Barangay Treasurer Liberato Agoncillo said that long power outages are a common occurrence in their area.
“Gahapon, the whole day gikan ug alas-otso niabot ug ala sais usa nibalik ang kuryente. So wala gyud miy mabuhat sa barangay,” (Yesterday, the whole day from 8:00 AM, itreached until 6:00 PM before the power came back on. We cannot do anything in the barangay,) he said.
He added that power in their health center is crucial as it is where their COVID-19 vaccines are stored for refrigeration.
“Amo gani giingnan si Kap [Alfredo Balansag Sr.] na blessed kaayo ta ana kay kana pwerting dakoa ang ikatabang sa amo kay dili lang suga kay magamit man pud ang outlet ba tung sa bago ang technology sa solar ba dili tung pang household lang.
Pasalamat kaayo mi na isa mi sa napilian ninyo.” (We even told our Brgy. Captain [Alfredo Balansag Sr.] that we are so blessed because these [solar panels] are very helpful to us since not only with (supplying power for) lights, we can also use the outlet of the new technology of solar panels (for other uses) outside household use.
