BAGUIO CITY — Community members of Tuel village in Tublay, Benguet, pose for a souvenir photo at the newly completed consolidation facility ahead of its formal inauguration by officials from Caritas Española and Caritas Philippines later this September 2026.
Funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development (AECID), the building serves as a central hub for vegetables harvested from the farms of Tuel, one of the two project areas of Caritas in Benguet. The other project area is in Sagpat village, where another consolidation facility stands. The facility will also be inaugurated next week.
The over-P1-million facility is equipped with a freezer, refrigerator, weighing scales, crates, a laptop, and other accessories. It also has sinks, a water tank, a toilet, office space, and a dressing room to ensure that vegetables meet sanitation standards for quality control before packing and delivery to market outlets, as well as institutional and individual buyers.
The building will be jointly managed by farmers’ organizations formed into civil society organizations and supervised by Caritas Baguio, the local counterpart of Caritas in Benguet.
In addition to capacity-building initiatives implemented over the past four years since the launch of the Green North Luzon Project, other AECID-funded projects include the construction of a bakery, greenhouse, and nursery.
