Prioritizing the importance of maintaining a clean environment, the Linggo ng Kabataan activities included a Coastal Clean-Up. Participants were the troops of 81st Infantry Battalion together with Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sta Lucia, Ilocos Sur, and the members and officials of Sangguniang Kabataan. Coastal Clean-up was held in six (6) barangays of Sta Lucia, Ilocos Sur on September 06, 2020.

According to Lt. Col. Rodrigo A. Mariñas Jr., Commanding Officer, 81IB, the clean-up activity was in line with the celebration of the “Linggo ng Kabataan”. “The activity aims to bring environmental awareness to the people especially in this time of crisis and encourage them to support the advocacy in saving our mother earth,” said Lt. Col. Mariñas Jr.

The coastal clean-up activity was made possible through the support and cooperation of the Local Government Unit of Sta Lucia and its Sangguniang Kabataan Officials; the locals of Barangays Sabuanan, Vical, Luba, Paratong, Bao-as and Nangalisan all of Sta Lucia, together with the troops from 81IB and Sta Lucia Municipal Police Station.

Around 60 youth participated in the activity. “In behalf of the Youth of Sta. Lucia we are again grateful for the continuous support of the Army to our activities here. It really shows that they care not only about our safety, but also care about our environment,” said Sangguniang Kabataan President Rica Jae S Ablang.

Meanwhile, 702nd Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Audrey L. Pasia, PA lauded the coastal clean-up activity joined by the youth sector, PNP and LGU saying that, “Amidst the pandemic we are facing right now, we should not forget to protect our environment.” “We hope to have more environment-protection related activities in the future together with other stakeholders,” added Brig.
