FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija — A 70-meter-long cable-suspended concrete and steel Hanging Bridge benefiting 3,500 residents from 11 Sitios in Barangay Umiray, Dingalan, Aurora is now open as the GMA Kapuso Foundation Incorporated inaugurated the said bridge at Umiray Elementary School Covered Court on October 28, 2021.
Lt. Gen. Arnulfo Burgos Jr. PA, who was of those who graced the activity, cited the importance of the project for the people of Umiray as the town was greatly affected by the previous storms.
“The GMAKFI projects for this year were all being undertaken together with the NOLCOM and Dingalan and we are prioritizing these projects. I know the sacrifices of the community following the effects brought by typhoon Ulysses in the past,” said Lt. Gen. Burgos Jr.
According to Dingalan Mayor Shierwin H. Taay, because of the construction of the hanging bridge, people can now cross the river even when it is rainy season or the weather is bad.
After the event, a Tree Planting activity was conducted within the vicinity of the hanging bridge followed by “Give-a-Gift” in the same Barangay benefiting the IPs and students of Umiray Elementary School.
Meanwhile, the Acting Commander of the 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, Philippine Army Brigadier General Luis Rex D. Bergante PA congratulated those who made the project possible citing the strong partnership of the Army with its stakeholders like the GMAKFI.
