The Department of Science and Technology – National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) headed by Director Dr. Teresita C. Fortuna, Ph. D., in an effort to increase fabrication production capability in metal industry, assisted some metal enterprises located in Las Piñas and Parañaque cities which DOST-NCR visited with the media on a Roadshow Project Visit to micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on December 11, 2014.

The following metal industry tested and verified were:

· The DCM OVEN INCORPORATED represented by Ms. Marites S. Molina is located at Equitable Road, Talon 1, Las Piñas City.

DCM is engaged in the fabrication of bakery equipment such as Oven (Rotary, Stationary) Dough Kneading Machine (UM Protected), Spiral Mixer, Dough Roller Machine, Hopia Griddle, Cooling and Proofing Racks and Refurbishing of old and / or damaged DCM equipment.

DOST-intervention provides DCM training and Consultation services on technology needs assessment, energy conduct, plant-lay-out assistance and MPEX and Acquisition of S&T intervention-related equipment such as hydraulic shearing machine.

With the DOST-intervention, DCM increased its gross sales by 80% and eliminated bottle neck in production by reducing fabrication lead time from 30 days to 20 days, increasing production capacity by 80%, realizing savings in production cost, improving precision in cutting operation, reducing electrical consumption, reducing raw material wastages and improving product quality and production efficiency.

DCM markets are Julie’s Bakeshop, Pan De Manila, San Miguel Flour Mill, Contis, Marl Corner Bakeshop, Marbys, Olsen Forde, Tinapayan Festival, Lots of Pizza, Bakers Percent n’ Cake Ysabel, and Bakeries and bakeshops nationwide.

· G&G ENTERPRISES MACHINE SHOP owned by Mr. Gavino B. Gesmundo, is located at 8467 West Service Road, South Super Highway, Parañaque City.

G&G deals with the fabrication of food processing equipment and pulverizer; fabrication of escalator and elevator components, provision of escalator and elevator maintenance services and an accredited fabricator of DOST developed food processing equipment such as screw press and vacuum fryer.

DOST provided G&G training and consultancy services such as technology needs assessment and technical assistance in equipment acquisition and helped in the acquisition of Precision Lathe Machine.

With the DOST intervention G&G has increased production by 100% improved lead time by 50% increased gross sales by 60%, reduced rejects and reworks in production, penetrated new markets (KDNE, Bibingkinitan, Mapagmahal Foods, Inc. and other Government Projects, improved fabrication capability, increased range of machinery services provided to include long series threading and shafting, and fabricators with larger diameter and eliminated outsourcing of processes for metal marking and fine cooling.

Markets are DOST, DTI, DA, PCA, Jardine Schindler Elevator Corporation. OTIS, EDM Company Philippines, KDNE, Bibingkinitan, Mapagmahal foods Inc., and other government agencies.

· EDGESMETAL & TECHNICAL SERVICES owned by Mr. Ervin G. Esteves is located at 8467 West Service Road, South Highway, Parañaque City.

EDGESMETAL marks on the fabrication of conveyor parts for battling lines, kitchen and food services equipment, railings, signage, and other metal-based decorative and functional architectural requirements, piping fixtures and sluice gates for waste water treatment and flood control system, pipe and fixtures for automotive industries, elevator cladding, stainless cabinets and other metal-based components; provision of CNC milling / Lathe machinery services and sheet metal works, wielding and stamping services.

DOST provided the establishment training and consultancy services such as technology needs assessment, technical assistance on equipment acquisition, and acquisition of MC Shearing Machine.

EDGESMETAL through the DOST intervention generated savings of PhP 50,000.00 /month, decreased Metal sheet processing time by 60-70%, increased production capacity by 150%, eliminated outsourcing of metal shearing processes, improved cutting precision resulting in reduced rejects and reworks, generated additional income through additional services (metal sheet cutting) to other contractors.
