Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Sector leader Engr. Emer Rojas, yesterday lauded President Benigno Aquino III for the passage of Republic Act 10754, which exempts PWDs from paying value added tax (VAT).

According to Rojas, it is a welcome news to finally provide exemptions for PWDs by ridding them of the burden of paying VAT.

“Finally, the VAT exemption for selected PWD purchases was signed into law by the President. This is a welcome relief especially to Persons with Disabilities,” said Rojas, who is the Quezon City Local Development Council PWD Sector Representative.

He noted how the newly-signed law will provide PWDs the additional resources to finance their medical needs.

The Global Cancer Ambassador specifically cited qualified cancer survivors that require regular medical monitoring tests, such as MRI and blood exams.

Rojas also mentioned as example persons with autism as needing to take their maintenance medicines regularly.

On Tuesday, Malacanang announced Aquino’s signing of RA 10754, which effectively amends the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.

Aside from exempting PWDs from VAT payment, the law also grants a P25,000-annual income tax deduction to relatives, who are caring for and living with PWDs.
