THE Department of Science and Technology launched the LIPAD, or the LiDAR Portal for Archiving and Distribution that gives local government, and other interested organizations easier access to hazard maps. This can help communities in preparing for calamities.
The Phil-LiDAR Program 1 and 2 were initiated with the goal of producing detailed flood hazard and resources maps using LiDAR Technology. To achieve, DOST-PCIEERD engaged the University of the Philippines (UP) and fifteen (15) Higher Educational Institutes in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in order to create such maps at this scope and scale, the programs acquired process , and analize large volumes of LiDAR and LiDAR.
LIPAD will serve as the point of contact for the data access and distribution of the Phil-LiDAR 1 Program. Through LIPAD, (LiDAR) data can now be download from the LiPAD website www.lipad.dream.upd.edu.ph.
The products available for download include: Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) Digital Terrain Models(DTMs) Orthophotos, Classified LAS and flood hazard maps, all these data ae available to stakeholders such as Local Government Units (LGUs), National Government Agencies (NGAs), Non Government Organizations (NGOs), member of the academe, and researchers, among others.
To be able to download LiDAR data and view the resources available, the users would have to register within the LiPAD website. LiPAD features accessible after registration include: centralized login to various Phil-LiDAR resources, data catalog and metadata searching functionalities; Map visualization and direct download of derived datasets such as flood hazard maps, etc; Data request and FTP access to fine scale LiDAR, DEMs, and Orthophotos. Confirmation email is sent to the user when registration is approved by the data Archiving Distribution Component of the Phil-LiDAR 1 PROGRAM.
Currently, downloads are limited to 10GB per user, downloaded on a piecemeal basis of 350MB per day. Data beyond 10GB will have to be distributed manually. Strong and fast internet connection is required for succesful LiDAR data downloading (Click picture to enlarge)
