Quezon City, 12 July 2016 – representing the newly-establised Philippine National Coalition for Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining pose with raised fists with a volunteer portraying President Rodrigo Duterte in a press conference organized by NGO BAN Toxics. BAN Toxics and the cualition are united in calling for the new administration’s recognition and support for the artisanal and small-scale mining sector. Together with BAN Toxics, the cualition seeks to reduce the use of mercury and other toxic materials in mining towards responsible mining and hopes to engage President Duterte and new DENR Secretary , Gina Lopez , in a discussion on how to achieve a progressive, healthy and sustainable artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) community.
