The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region will kick off Kadiwa on Wheels on April 04, 2020, at the Bayan Park Covered Court, Baguio City. This is a joint initiative of the DA-CAR, Department of Trade Industry-Cordillera and the City Government of Baguio City to provide food to the local residents.

Cacadcadaan Multipurpose Cooperative of Balili, Manakyan, Benguet led the Kadiwa on wheels where they sell a total of 500 kilograms of assorted vegetables.

Brent Pasian, manager of Cacadcadaan MPC said that through this activity, the department helps their farmer members with opportunities to market their products directly to the consumer. He said this kadiwa on wheels also helps the residents to avoid congestion in different public markets.

Assorted fresh vegetables, fruits, and other agricultural crops were sold to the residents of the 13 Barangay of Aurora at a reasonable price following the physical distancing protocols and wearing of masks. Bayan Park Barangay Captain Melvin Jose Cortes said this market activity will be a great help to the residents during this enhanced quarantine period especially those senior citizens with mobility problems. “Residents don’t need to go to the market to buy goods because this initiative makes them closer to buying their needs, he added.

Aside from this initiative, the department continues to issue food passes, provide transportation systems and market linkages to the farmer including seeds distributions to the community amidst this crisis. A Kadiwa on wheels is also scheduled on April 05, 2020, at the DOT Building parking Area, Loakan, Baguio City.
