June 07, 2022 – Nanawagan ang Child Rights Network (CRN), isa sa pinakamalaking organisasyon at samahan, kasama ang grupong Parents against Vape (PAV) at ilan pang grupo, na i-veto ni Pangulong Duterte o ipawalang bisa at huwag pirmahan ang House Bill 9007 at ang Senate Bill 2239 o Vaporized Nicotine Products, sakaling mapunta na ito sa kanyang opisina sa Malakañang.
Ayon kay Rom Dongeto, Convenor ng Child Rights Network, limang (5) buwan na halos ang nakalilipas matapos pumasa at maaprubahan sa bicameral committee ang nasabing batas, subalit hanggang sa mga sandaling ito hindi pa rin iniindorso ang nasabing Bill sa opisina ng Pangulong Duterte. Marahil natatakot sila na i-veto ng Pangulo ang nasabing batas.
Kung kaya, marahil, ipapasa nila ang Bill sa opisina ng Pangulo sa huling minuto, at ng sa ganon wala ng pagkakataon na i-review pa ng Pangulong Duterte ang nasabing Vape Bill, ayon pa kay Dongeto.
“ Once the Vape Bill reaches your desk Mr. President, we implore to negate the lobbying of tobacco industry and uphold public health. Listen to your cabinet members, especially DepEd and DOH. Listen to health experts. Listen to clild rights advocates. Veto the Vape Bill,” panawagan ni Dongeto.
“If you sign this Bill, Mr. President, you will also deprive children and the youth a healthy future,” ayon naman kay Karylle Aliswag, Young leader ng tobacco control.
“In your waning day as a leader of the nation, wield your power one last time, Mr. President. Heed the times, veto the Vape Bill, dagdag pa ni Aliswag.
