DAR Sec. Mariano, kaisa ng mga empleyado ng NFAEA

Dumalo si Agrarian Reform Secretary (DAR) Rafael “Ka Paeng” Mariano sa ika- walumput siyam (89th) na taon ng National Board Conference of the National Food Authority Employees Association o NFAEA sa lungsod ng Davao at bilang pakikiisa ng kalihim sa kanilang pagsisikap upang patatagin ang presyo at supply ng palay at mais kasabay sa pagpapataas sa kita ng mga magsasaka. Sa kanyang talumpati, sinabi ni Secretary Mariano na kaisa umano siya sa panawagan ng NFAEA para sa pagkakaisa tungo sa isang makabuluhang pagbabago para sa bansa, lalo na para sa kapakanan ng mga magsasaka. Sinabi pa ni Secretary Mariano na kasalukuyan na nitong trinatrabaho ang pagsasabatas ng genuine agrarian reform bill na siya umanong magdadala ng makabuluhan at nararapat na pagbabago para sa mga magsasaka. Ang NFAEA ay kasalukuyang nakikipaglaban upang pigilan ang plano ng International Monetary Fund o IMF at ilang mga malalakas na grupo sa kongreso na isapribado ang National Food Authority o NFA at upang itigil ang pag-alis ng suporta ng estado para sa mga magsasaka at mga mamimili. Si Secretary Mariano ay kasalukuyang nasa Davao upang pakinggan at tugunan ang mga hinaing at isyu ng mga magsasaka doon. Nakatakda ring magtungo ang kalihim sa lalawigan ng North Cotabato para pangunahan ang isang turn-over ceremony ng isang rubber processing plant para sa isang organisasyon ng agrarian reform beneficiary doon....

IRRADIATION TO ENHANCE PLANT GROWTH

  By irradiating a seaweed called carrageenan, experts found that the resulting product  becomes an effective plant growth enhancer (collected in the blue plastic containers) that can be mixed with commercial fertilizers. RP will soon produce commercial organic chix

The Philippines may start raising organic chicken on a commercial scale, following the go signal for Philippine poultry exports from the government of South Korea. This was announced by Agriculture Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol during a meeting with Ambassador Kim Jae Shin. “We can now sell our chicken products to them since the facilities of the San Miguel Corporation have already been approved and the Province of Maguindanao has started the “Halal” chicken production. “The chicken can be raised, using commercial rearing facilities, but the feeds are totally organic,” he said. The all-natural feeds will be formulated by an Islamic engineer, so the products comply with Halal standards,” he added.  During the meeting Piñol also thanked the South Korean government for providing market for other Philippine agricultural commodities such as bananas and pineapples, sourced primarily in Mindanao. “Investments in Philippine agriculture is very important as it enables us to be competitive with other ASEAN countries, he explained. “We cannot compete with Vietnam and Thailand in terms of production if the government does not give adequate support,” he added. The Agri chief told the Korean ambassador that with the help of technical personnel he is positive that the country will achieve self-sufficiency in rice in three years.
